Itinerary

Day 1: Basti, Corsica

Today, we begin our Corsican adventure in Bastia, a vibrant port city where colourful streets, lively cafés, and historic charm set the tone for an unforgettable journey. We explore the bustling Old Port and wander through the atmospheric alleys of the old town with our local guide.

The afternoon is free to explore before we get-together in the evening for a glass of wine, celebrating the beginning of our journey together, followed by a welcome dinner.

Day 2: Porto Oto

Traveling from Bastia to Porto Ota today offers a scenic ride through Corsica’s rugged northern coast, with stunning views of cliffs, sea, and mountain villages. Nestled in the Gulf of Porto, the charming village of Porto Ota is the gateway to the UNESCO-listed Calanques de Piana and Scandola Nature Reserve—spectacular natural sites known for their dramatic rock formations and rich wildlife. On arrival, we will explore Port Ota with our local guide.

Day 3: Ajaccio

Today, we will board our semi-rigid boats to explore the three wonders of this UNESCO-listed area: the Calanques de Piana, Capo Rosso, and Scandola Nature Reserve. During our journey, we will discover stunning natural pools and unique rock formations. We’ll also stop at the charming hamlet of Girolata before returning to Porto Ota and making our way to Ajaccio, the capital of Corsica.

Ajaccio is a vibrant coastal city rich in history, charm, and Mediterranean flair. It is best known as the birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte and offers a mix of elegant architecture, lively markets, and beautiful golden beaches. Upon our arrival, our guide will take us on a walking tour through the city.

Day 4: Bonifacio

Today we drive from Ajaccio to Bonifacio, offering stunning coastal views and a glimpse of Corsica’s rugged beauty. Passing through towns like Propriano and Sartène, the route winds past hills, sea cliffs, and charming villages. Arriving in Bonifacio, perched on dramatic limestone cliffs, we will be rewarded with breathtaking views and a historic old town overlooking the sea.

On arrival, our guide will take us on a walking tour of Bonifacio, wandering through narrow cobbled streets lined with centuries-old stone houses, exploring hidden courtyards, and listening to stories of the town’s dramatic history.

Day 5: Alghero, Sardinia

The journey from Bonifacio to Santa Teresa Gallura begins with a scenic 50-minute ferry ride across the Strait of Bonifacio, offering stunning coastal views.

On arrival, we will meet our Sardinian local guide who will take us for a stroll through this charming seaside town featuring pastel- coloured buildings and the 16th century Longosardo Tower.

After lunch, we continue our drive to the medieval town of Castelsardo with narrow winding streets, a hilltop castle, and breathtaking views of the Gulf of Asinara. In the afternoon, we drive to Alghero, the coastal town with its Catalan charm and picturesque harbor.

Day 6: Excursion in Sardinia

Today, we explore Alghero and the spectacular Neptune’s Caves, a vast network of sea grottoes filled with dramatic stalactites and stalagmites. In the afternoon, we will explore the city and have some free time.

Day 7: Excursion in Sardinia

After breakfast, we depart for central Sardinia, arriving first in Nuoro to explore the Museum of Popular Arts and Traditions. Next, the tour heads to Orgosolo, known for its striking murals adorning local homes.

Today we have a special lunch in the tranquil Holm Oak woods, featuring a traditional meal including Cannonau wine. The day wraps up with a return to Alghero, leaving a lasting impression of Sardinia’s rich culture and flavors.

Day 8: Cagliari

Today we depart Alghero and travel to Cagliari. The day begins with a visit to Bosa, a charming riverside town known for its colourful houses and medieval castle. We continue inland to the Sacred Well of Santa Cristina, an impressive example of Nuragic religious architecture. In the afternoon, we continue to Barumini, visiting the Su Nuraxi complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the most important Nuraghe in Sardinia.

Day 9: Excursion in Sardinia

The day begins in Cagliari, exploring the historic Castello district, the Cathedral, and scenic views from the Bastione di Saint Remy. In the afternoon, visit the ancient site of Nora, with its Roman ruins, mosaics, and seaside theatre—a fascinating look into Sardinia’s early history.

Day 10: Cagliari to Valletta, Malta

After breakfast, enjoy some free time in Cagliari, soaking in its lively atmosphere, historic charm, and coastal views, before heading to the airport in the afternoon for your flight to Malta.

Day 11: Valletta and the Three Cities

Today, we explore the historic city of Birgu, one of the renowned Three Cities, with its narrow lanes, fortifications, and rich maritime heritage. Then enjoy stunning views of the Grand Harbour before discovering Valletta, Malta’s elegant capital, filled with Baroque architecture, grand churches, and vibrant streets.

Day 12: Valletta and Ancient Mdina

We step back in time today as we explore Malta’s ancient antiquities and medieval towns. Explore Mdina, the silent city, with its narrow, winding streets and medieval architecture, before visiting Rabat, home to fascinating Roman ruins and early Christian sites. We continue to a local winery for lunch before we visit Mosta, a quaint town famous for its stunning Rotunda Church, which houses one of the largest unsupported domes in Europe.

Day 13: Valletta, Gozo Island and the Blue Lagoon

After breakfast, we embark on a scenic ferry to Gozo Island, Malta’s tranquil sister island, where we’ll explore its picturesque countryside, the ancient Ggantija Temples, and the stunning Azure Window (weather permitting). The adventure continues with a ferry ride along Comino’s coastline, offering magnificent views of the Blue Lagoon and the island’s sea caves, allowing us to experience the beauty of Malta’s pristine waters and rugged coastline.

Day 14: Valletta and Ancient Temples

Today, we visit the Charming South & Ancient Temples of Malta. We travel through the island’s captivating southern region, where we see the prehistoric Hagar Qim and Mnajdra Temples, ancient megalithic sites dating back over 5,000 years.  In the afternoon, we return via Marsaxlokk, a charming fishing village known for its colourful boats, vibrant market, and picturesque waterfront

Day 15: Valletta

Enjoy a leisurely day exploring Valletta’s historic streets, shops, and waterfront before meeting for dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 16: Valetta to Ortygia, Sicily

We depart Malta by ferry to Sicily, crossing the sparkling Mediterranean as we head toward Italy’s southern shores. In the afternoon, enjoy a leisurely walk through the enchanting Island of Ortygia, known for its Baroque architecture, seaside charm, and vibrant piazzas.

Day 17: Excursion to Noto

Today, we venture to Noto, a masterpiece of Sicilian Baroque architecture, where elegant palaces and golden-hued churches line its grand streets. After exploring this UNESCO World Heritage Site, we return to Ortygia to relax and soak in its timeless coastal beauty.

Day 18: Mt Etna and Taormina

After breakfast, we will leave Ortygia and head to Mount Etna, the highest active volcano in Europe. There, we’ll have an “Etna Experience” before continuing to the glamorous resort town of Taormina,

where we will explore the stunning streets and visit the famous Teatro Greco.

Day 19: Taormina and Sicilian excursion

This morning, we’ll enjoy a stroll through the enchanting town of Taormina, taking in its elegant boutiques, ancient Greek Theatre, and sweeping views of the sea and Mount Etna. Later, we’ll journey to a picturesque village nestled in the Sicilian hills and known as both a filming location for The Godfather and the birthplace of my parents. Here, we’ll be warmly welcomed by my cousins and treated to a delicious, traditional home-cooked meal, savouring authentic Sicilian flavours in a truly personal and memorable setting before returning to Taormina.

Day 20: Savoca and Cefalu

Today, we will be visiting Savoca, a serene and ancient hilltop village situated high above the sea, where you can experience the authentic atmosphere of Sicily. The main attraction of Savoca is its connection with Francis Ford Coppola’s film, The Godfather. The village’s little square is where scenes for the movie were shot at Bar Vitelli.

After our visit to Savoca, we continue to Cefalu, a charming seaside town on Sicily’s north coast, known for its sandy beaches, medieval streets, and stunning Norman cathedral with Byzantine mosaics. Nestled between the sea and a rocky cliff, it offers a perfect mix of history and coastal beauty.

Day 21: Cefalu and Castelbuono

This morning, we will set off to explore the enchanting village of Castelbuono, a hidden gem tucked away in the stunning Madonie Mountains. With its charming medieval architecture and serene atmosphere, this picturesque destination promises a delightful escape into history and natural beauty.

The afternoon is free to explore Cefalu.

Day 22: Palermo

After breakfast, we embark on a journey to Palermo, the vibrant capital of Sicily. Renowned as the world’s most conquered city, Palermo is a captivating tapestry woven from the threads of diverse civilizations, including the Phoenicians, Romans, Byzantines, Arabs, and Normans.

 

On arrival, we will meet our local guide for a walking tour of Palermo. As we wander through its bustling streets, we will uncover layers of history that tell stories of resilience and cultural exchange. The city is a treasure trove of art and architecture, showcasing stunning Baroque churches, majestic palaces, and intricate mosaics that reflect its rich heritage. Moreover, Palermo’s dynamic atmosphere is alive with the sounds of street musicians and the aromas of traditional Sicilian cuisine, inviting us to savour the unique blend of flavours that have been perfected over centuries. Whether exploring its vibrant markets or admiring its historical landmarks, Palermo promises an unforgettable experience steeped in culture, art, music, and culinary delights.

After our tour, we will return to the hotel and check in for our 2-night stay in our centrally located hotel in the historic centre.

Day 23: Palermo

Today, you will have a free day to soak up the lively atmosphere in the vibrant city of Palermo!

Day 24: Erice and Trapani

This morning, we leave Palermo and drive to the picturesque hilltop village of Erice. As we traverse the winding roads, we’ll be captivated by breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. On arrival, we’ll stroll through the charming cobblestone streets, surrounded by historical architecture. Here, we will indulge in the renowned local pastries, such as the delicate marzipan sweets and delectable almond pastries that Erice is famous for. Our adventure continues as we descend by cable car to Trapani.

Day 25: Egadi Islands and Marsala

Today, we sail from the charming port of Trapani, to discover the beauty of the Egadi Islands. After soaking in the sun and exploring the vibrant local culture, we will set sail and make our way to Marsala.

Day 26: Marsala and Agrigento

After breakfast, we will explore the picturesque town of Marsala, where we will meet our local guide for a walking tour through its charming, narrow streets adorned with colourful buildings and vibrant local life.

 

Following our tour, we visit a local winery. Here, we will indulge in a delightful wine tasting, paired with carefully selected local delicacies that enhance the rich flavours of the region’s finest vintages.

Continuing southward, we will make a brief stop at the stunning Scala dei Turchi, a breathtaking limestone cliff rising majestically from the Mediterranean Sea, offering dramatic views and a perfect backdrop for memorable photos. Finally, we will arrive at our hotel in Agrigento.

Day 27: Excursion to the Sicilian countryside

This morning, we will take a scenic drive through the picturesque countryside to a charming olive farm where we explore the lush olive grove. The tour will culminate with an exquisite olive oil tasting, allowing us to savour the rich, golden liquid that embodies the essence of the region. Following our tasting, we’ll enjoy a mouthwatering street food lunch, featuring local delicacies that celebrate the vibrant flavours of the area.

In the late afternoon, we return to Agrigento and after a short break, we meet our local guide for an enchanting walking tour of the Valley of the Temples, a UNESCO World Heritage site. As we stroll through this remarkable landscape, we’ll be immersed in the grandeur of ancient ruins, surrounded by breathtaking views that evoke the rich history of the area.

Day 28: Ragusa Ibla

Today, we leave Agrigento and travel to Ragusa.  We will stop at the charming Piazza Amerina, a delightful locale known for its vibrant atmosphere and historical significance. Here, we will meet our local guide, who will lead us on an unforgettable exploration of the awe-inspiring Villa Romana del Casale, a treasured UNESCO World Heritage site.

 

As we step into the villa, we will be transported back in time, surrounded by the exquisite beauty of its polychrome mosaics. These intricate artworks tell stories of ancient life and showcase remarkable craftsmanship, capturing the shimmering colours and delicate details that have withstood the test of time.

Day 29: Excursion to Modica

Our excursion today will take us to Castello di Donnafugata, where we will have the opportunity to see the partially restored 16th-century castle and the small museum which houses 300 years of fashion.

We’ll be making a stop at Modica, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its breathtaking Baroque architecture and renowned for its delicious Modica chocolate. Chocolate enthusiasts will have the opportunity to indulge in some of the town’s finest offerings during a special tasting experience.
Dinner is included tonight at a local restaurant.

Day 30: Catania

Today we make our way to our final destination – Catania, a dynamic city on Sicily’s eastern coast, set at the base of Mount Etna. Rich in history and culture, it features striking Baroque architecture built from black lava stone, vibrant street markets, ancient Roman ruins, and a lively atmosphere that blends tradition with modern Sicilian life.

In the early evening, we will meet and celebrate our shared experiences and the incredible journey we’ve had through Sicily and Southern Italy. Let’s toast our new friendships and lasting memories!
